Instructions After Wart Treatment
You will need the following materials:
- bottle of hydrogen peroxide
- small bottle of Betadine solution (or generic)
- 3×3 inch gauze squares
- 2×3 inch Telfa pads
- roll of 1″ adhesive tape
With the exception of the peroxide, the above materials are available in a pack from the office.
- After your wart procedure, it is normal to see some bleeding through the bandage. The bandage should remain on the foot.
- Ice packs may be placed on top of the treated areas to decrease pain.
- Medications such as aspirin, Tylenol®, Advil (Ibuprofen) or Aleve may be taken as needed. Stronger medication is rarely necessary.
- The morning after the day of surgery, remove the dressing. If the bandage sticks uncomfortably to the wound, soak the dressing in some warm water containing peroxide. Clean the area on the foot using peroxide and 3×3 gauze.
- Apply a clean dressing to the area(s) in the following sequence: Betadine, Telfa pad (against the skin), 3×3 gauze and tape. Be sure the dressing is securely attached to the foot.
- When bathing, leave the dressing ON your foot. Afterwards, remove the wet dressing, rinse the foot with clean water and repeat step #5 above.
- It is MOST IMPORTANT to keep the area clean. Avoid contaminating the open wound with particles of sand or hair.
- Change the dressing daily for about 7 to 10 days, or until the wound dries and closes. If the area becomes red or unusually tender, call the office.
